STEAMed SPNHC: One Planet, Shared Futures

At SPNHC 2025, we plan to highlight the potential of the intersection of Art and Science (e. g. collections and collecting). Chandra Earl and Deb Paul are proposing a suite of events including a Silent Art Auction, an Artist's Corner, and an Unconference session around this topic. With these activities, we see the potential to extend the conference’s reach and impact beyond its traditional audience, strengthening ties, visibility, relevance, and inclusion with the local art community and across our own.

If you would like to help organize any of these events or have questions, please contact Chandra or Deb.

Silent Art Auction For the Silent Art Auction, SPNHC members and potentially local artists donate personal or collections-based art to be auctioned off, with proceeds benefiting the SPNHC Student Travel Fund. This initiative directly impacts inclusion and supports students and early-career professionals, while simultaneously celebrating and expanding the artistic creativity of our community. The auction will also serve as a platform to connect attendees with the arts while showcasing the diversity of contributions from SPNHC members.

Contribute: If you have art you would like to contribute to this event, please fill out this Google Form describing your contribution(s).

Artist’s Corner

The Artist’s Corner is a dedicated space within the exhibit and auction area where artists can gather to create, engage with attendees, and discuss their work. This informal, interactive area provides an opportunity for attendees to witness art in action and explore how creative practices can enrich scientific endeavors.

Unconference

The Unconference provides a participant-driven session to explore the possibilities in the integration of art and science. Attendees pitch topics, form breakout groups, and discuss ideas such as enhancing scientific communication and dialogue through art, extending our collaboration models, strategies for partnering with artists, and the motivations and rationale for doing this.
